Sam Wilbraham – Painter, illustrator, storyteller

Welcome. I'm Sam Wilbraham – a painter, cartoonist and illustrator. And, when I remember to mention it, a writer too.

I came to art the long way round, via professional kitchens and a career in marketing. In 2018 I left the UK for Switzerland and, finding myself within reach of Florence, spent a year and a half training as a classical realist painter at the Angel Academy of Art.

Oil painting is still at the heart of what I do, but the same grounding in drawing and storytelling now runs through my editorial cartoons, comic strips and illustration – and increasingly into motion and film. I make work on art, history and technique, alongside visual responses to the things I encounter in everyday life.

Whatever brings you here, you'll find each area of my work in the menu above. If something catches your eye, or you'd like to talk about a commission or collaboration, I'd love to hear from you.
